Forth of July and Roadside Attractions

Joe and I have spent some quality time in the car this summer. Attending a far away wedding (Wisconsin) meeting his dad for camping (Helena, Montana) listening to a fair share of talking books (we would highly recommend Kate DiCamillo's Tale of Despereaux). Though I logged a lot of miles on the interstate. Most summer days have been spent in good ol' Fargo, ND. I tolled away in the basement of the Moorhead Library. Joe made milkshakes, old fashioned soda and tended Dakota Soda with his 'jerkiest' skills. Much free time was spent at the FM Community Bike workshop, learning about truing wheels, fixing breaks, and growing accustom to the intense heat/humidity in the shop.

I broke my nose and other summer tales

Truly late summer is a time of change. I've witnessed it first hand these past few weeks.

July 20th I played this summer's first game (possibly last) of ultimate frisbee. Determined to win, my face got too close to an equally determined hand, which won and sent me to the ER confirming I fractured my nose. I cried, ate ice cream, and (luckily) my nose turned out to be fine after 3 weeks. Please note: The ER provided me with a complimentary blue, ice filled hospital bootie. (see photo)

July 25-28th I traveled with Joe to meet his dad midway in Helena, MT for camping, excessive amounts of seafood, catching polliwogs, wearing the same skirt for 4 days, swimming, and hand-picked huckleberries.

July 29th Joseph turned 30. While I remained 25 years of age.

August 8th I worked my last day at LARL (Lake Agassiz Regional Library) Unfortunately now I'll have to pay my late fees now!

August 12th I began training for my new position as a member of Minnesota Reading Corps (an Americorps program)
